Pruning Time

Join us Tuesday and Saturday mornings around 10 a.m. as we prepare the repeat blooming roses for their spring show.

Wear warm and protective clothing (some of the roses have serious prickles), bring your loppers, nippers and saws and wear heavy gloves and we'll put you to work.

Get ready for the Historic Rose Garden's 20-year anniversary!

Yes, the Historic Rose Garden in Sacramento’s Historic City Cemetery will be 20 years old in 2012 and we’re planning a year-long birthday bash and invite all antique rose lovers to join with us.

In addition to the annual Open Garden on April 21, we’re holding a weekend 20-year anniversary event in October.  It will begin on Friday, October 12 with an evening at the Cemetery – a wine and cheese reception and a preview of the annual Lantern Tours…fascinating stories told after dark while wandering through the Cemetery.

On Saturday, we’re planning a day-long event at the nearby California Automobile Museum with speakers, panels and presentations about the Rose Garden and some of the special roses growing there.  The day will include lunch and dinner on site with a special surprise in the afternoon.  There will be rose sales and silent and live auctions.  The Heritage Rose Foundation will also hold a brief annual membership meeting.

Sunday, October 14 we’ll spend the morning with our rosy friends touring the Rose Garden and enjoying coffee and snacks.  The Heritage Rose Foundation will hold their annual Board meeting at the museum in the afternoon while the rest of us can continue at the Cemetery or adjourn for lunch.

We’re still working out some details, so mark your calendars for October 12-14, 2012.  Additional details and registration information will appear soon on this website.

Hope to see you in October.
