Old Garden Rose Classes

Springtime Classes will be held in the Historic Rose Garden over three consecutive Sunday afternoons.  These FREE sessions will offer visitors an opportunity to learn about classes of old garden roses.  Many of these are roses brought to California from Europe and the eastern US by pioneers.  Anita Clevenger, Historic Rose Garden Curator will join other volunteers in classes that will include walking through the garden to learn about these wonderful roses.

  • Tea Roses, China Roses and Noisette Roses (the only purely American class of rose) will be featured on April 22.
  • Hybrid Perpetual Roses and Bourbon Roses will be featured on April 29.
  • Gallica Roses (ancient) Damask Roses (from the Middle East), Alba Roses and Centifolia Roses will be the topic on May 6.

Sessions begin at 1 p.m.  Please park on the street as on-site parking is not available.  We'll meet near the Historic Rose Garden sign.
